Lweje border trade value surpasses US$24 mln as of 14 July

Myanmar conducted border trade worth US$24.46 million with the neighbouring country China through the Lweje border post as of 14 July of the current financial year 2023-2024 beginning 1 April, comprising exports worth $11.36 million and imports worth $13.1 million, the statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce indicated.
The figure was down by $34.8 million this FY compared to the corresponding period last FY. Both exports and imports fell in the past three and a half months.
The number of trucks carrying the goods to China via the Lweje border was around 400-500 per day in April and May and increased to over 700 per day from the second week of July.
Myanmar primarily exported rice, corn, pulses, chilli pepper, onion and seasonal vegetables, while machines, clothes and consumer goods were imported into the country. — TWA/EM
