Magway Region Govt unveils water supply plan for Buddha Pujaniya festival

The Magway Region Government announced that it will supply irrigation water during the Mann Shwesettaw pagoda festival period.
The Manchaung Dam, located in Ngaphe Township, Minbu District, provides year-round irrigation for farmland in Ngaphe and Minbu (Sagu) townships. Additionally, it aids in replenishing the Mann creek for recreational purposes and fire prevention.
Water distribution from the dam was halted on 28 November 2023, after the monsoon paddy harvest, and resumed on 8 February. The water will feed summer crops and support the construction of guest houses ahead of the Mann Shwesettaw Buddha Pujaniya festival on 14 February.
The dam was built in 1995-96 financial year and finished in 1998-99 FY. The embankment is 4,480 feet long and 135 feet high. It has a storage capacity of up to 120,000 acre-feet and a watershed area spanning 136 square miles. — TWA/NT
