Make concerted efforts for the development of Kayin State

In the pursuit of national development, the government is resolutely committed to ensuring equitable progress and regional peace across the nation, bolstering the rule of law. Unfortunately, some regions, marred by terrorism, struggle to meet their developmental objectives.
A prime example is Kayin State, where the local populace faces numerous challenges due to the disruptive actions of terrorists and traitors devoid of rationality. In light of this, it is imperative that the ethnic communities actively engage in counter-terrorism efforts to restore peace, stability, and prosperity. This collective endeavour is particularly timely as the whole country commemorates the 68th Anniversary of Kayin State on 7 November.
The government’s primary focus is on promoting peace, stability, and development, with an emphasis on improving healthcare access, enhancing educational qualifications, and creating job opportunities to alleviate poverty. It is only through the socioeconomic improvement of individual citizens that the nation can achieve holistic development. Consequently, relevant ministries and regional authorities must diligently implement their respective missions and visions.
A thorough examination of the state’s economy reveals that the manufacturing sector suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbated by challenges in the transport sector. Additionally, international pressure from major foreign nations has adversely impacted Myanmar’s trade, both domestic and foreign. These external factors have hindered the country’s development trajectory.
Despite these challenges, the government has persevered in its efforts to bolster the state’s economy. In the 2019-2020 financial year, Myanmar’s GDP witnessed a decline of -5.9 per cent, but in the subsequent financial year 2021-22, it rebounded to a positive growth of +3 per cent. However, the acts of terror groups, including the destruction of vital infrastructure like roads, bridges, power cable towers, and public-owned buildings, diverted funds from development initiatives to rehabilitation and reconstruction, inadvertently hindering economic growth.
Kayin State boasts an abundance of natural beauty, with its rivers, creeks, lakes, waterfalls, and rich cultural heritage. Traditions like the traditional Kayin don dance and frog drum ceremonies have garnered recognition and appreciation both at home and abroad.
The concerted efforts and cooperative spirit of the national brethren residing in Kayin State play a pivotal role in promoting peace, stability, and development in the region. Therefore, it is important for all stakeholders to join hands in accelerating the development of Kayin State, ultimately serving the interests of the ethnic communities and contributing to the progress of the beloved nation the entire people love.
