The growers from Kyattangon village, Pakokku township, Magway region are earning annual profit by growing guava on a manageable scale, it is learnt.
The guava has been cultivated for two and a half acres since 1997. About 20 new plants have been replanted and those plants need to be fertilized, watered and packed with newspaper or plastic bags. The fruits are harvested twice a year in winter and summer. The fruit is cultivated under the farming system so, the fruit is big and sweet. that is the reason why the retail and wholesale people come and buy the guava on the farmland.
“The guavas are sold for K1,000 a viss and local farmers are making good profits of K7 million a year. The farm owners hired about 10 labourers for two and a half acres of guava farmland. The annual cultivation costs over K2.5 million in total. The growers also earn an annual profit of over one million by growing others such as pomelo, cobras saffron and jasmine,” said U Arnt Htay, a guava grower.
