The pedigree sugarcane strains will be distributed to the growers in four townships.
It will be cultivated on 606 acres in Madaya Township, 4,000 in Singu, 1,000 in Thabeikkyin and 2,000 in Tagaung, totalling 7,606 acres, said an official of the Mandalay Region Agriculture Department.
“Sugarcane likes soil moisture. It is mostly cultivated in a temperate climate. The growth will start in February. The department will set model farming acres, distribute the pedigree varieties and have discussions with the sugar millers for contract farming to support agricultural loans. The sugarcane earns proper income and so the farmers should grow it. We also provide technical assistance to ensure the sugarcane quality and incomes of farmers,” said the official.
