Of 30 roads in eastern Shan State, the Meiktila-Taunggyi-Kengtung-Tachilek road section is the international gateway — ASEAN Highway (AH) and National Highway (NH 27). The 113/3 miles long road was constructed under the supervision of the Ministry of Construction and Highway Department of Shan State (East), while 99/7 miles section was conducted by Road Special Task Force (3) and 11/3 miles by Kengtung District Highway Department.
In the 2020-2021FY, Road Special Task Force (3) and Kengtung District Highway Department implemented 8 types of work plans, including AC paving programmes for 1/1.2 miles (18 feet), paving of tar road for 2/5.2 miles and expansion of mountain road spaces for 4/6.3 miles using K4.5 billion, and the operations are almost complete.
According to the master plan of the Highway Department, the officials will upgrade the road to a 23 feet wide asphalt concrete road. — Kayan Soe Myint/GNLM
