Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Workshop, 5th Joint Coordination Meeting held

A workshop on regional rural development between member countries and Joint Coordination Meeting for 5th Mekong-Lancang to be hosted by Myanmar was held at 9 am yesterday at the Department of Rural Development in Nay Pyi Taw by virtual conferencing.
The meetings aimed to enhance partnership on rural development and poverty alleviation between Mekong-Lancang cooperation countries including Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development U Khant Zaw called for reducing the development gap and supporting the establishment of the ASEAN Community.
Mekong-Lancang cooperation projects aimed to promote cooperation between developing countries to increase the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 2030, the Permanent Secretary said.
“Myanmar is co-chairing the 5th Mekong-Lancang Coordination Meeting, and a workshop on rural development experiences between countries in the region, as part of an experience exchange project to promote cooperation in rural development and poverty alleviation.
The workshops and meetings will share experiences on regional development and poverty alleviation efforts of countries in the region and discussed future cooperation plans,” the Permanent Secretary added.
According to the second special fund set up by the People’s Republic of China, the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation will focus on agriculture under the Agriculture and Poverty Reduction sector. The project was implemented from 2018 to 2021.
The workshop and meeting were attended by representatives from the six members of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.
Officials also exchanged information on national projects and future plans including Rural development and poverty alleviation plus lessons, achievements, experiences and challenges of the rural development and poverty alleviation during the COVID-19 outbreak. — MNA
