Ministries meet commercial attachés over trade promotion, new export items

The Ministry of Commerce held a virtual meeting with Myanmar commercial attachés in foreign countries yesterday over bilateral trade promotion and new export items to overseas markets.

At the meeting, Union Minister for Commerce Dr Pwint San discussed the role of commercial attachés in expanding markets for export items, and their works would be viewed in accordance with the result-based methods.

Union Minister for Foreign Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Aung Naing Oo talked about policies on the economic recovery of the country, inviting more foreign and local investments, and promotion of economic cooperation with partner countries.

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo remarked development of the agricultural sector which contributes 25 per cent of the country’s GDP and creates employment opportunities in addition to food sufficiency of the country, development of agrofood system, more markets for beans, rice and marine products and working to sign sanitary and phytosanitary agreements with foreign countries.

The first-day meeting was participated by the Myanmar commercial attachés from the United States, South Africa, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Belgium, Thailand and India.

The second-day meeting on 24 February will be joined by the Republic of China (Beijing, Nanning, Hong Kong, Kunming), Singapore, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Switzerland.—MNA
