MNHRC Chairman joins 2nd Technical Working Group Meeting of SEANF

The second Technical Working Group Meeting of the Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF), in which the Myanmar National Human Right Commission (MNHRC) is a full-fledged member, was hosted by the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines, the alternate chairman for the 2022 forum, through a hybrid format on 28 and 29 September.
National human rights institution representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines participated in the face-to-face meeting, together with representatives of Human Rights Commissions from Myanmar and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste through a virtual online platform. MNHRC Chairman U Hla Myint, Vice-Chairperson Dr Nandar Hmun, members U Paw Lwin Sein and Dr Than Myint, officials and staff.
During the meeting, attendees discussed actions and developments of national human rights institutions in member countries after the first meeting held in March 2022, the performance of national human rights institutions that took responsibility for the implementation of five prioritized issues from the SEANF Strategic Plan 2022-2026, the execution regarding “The Girls’ Leadership Index and the APAC Girls” of the Plan International of the Philippines, cooperation issues between SEANF and FORUM-ASIA/ANNI in 2022-2023, and holding of the 19th annual meeting of SEANF.
At the working group meeting, MNHRC Member U Paw Lwin Sein discussed measures regarding human rights of the MNHRC after the period of the first working group meeting, followed by Deputy Director-General of the MNHRC office Dr Khine Khine Win, the implementations concerning the issue “promoting and protecting human rights in business” from the SEANF Strategic Plan 2022-2026.
The forum reached an initial agreement in the working group meeting to hold the 19th annual meeting of SEANF in a hybrid format between 29 November and 1 December. — MNA
