MNHRC inspects Pyapon Prison

The inspection team, led by Commission member U Tin Aung from the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, inspected the Pyapon Prison in Pyapon Township, Ayeyawady Region, on 22 December 2023, under Section 43 and Section 44 of the MNHRC Law.
The inspection team inspected the prison under the MNHRC law and procedures to determine whether prisoners and detainees enjoy fundamental rights, including appropriate food supply, healthcare and adequate purified water. The inspection team enquired about prisoners to ensure that they get their personal items and items sent by families and whether there were human rights violations and torture cases in the prison.
The inspection team also inspected the dormitories, clinic, library, kitchen, food storage, water purifier, water sanitation system of the prison and family visitation status.
Besides, MNHRC donated 50 books for the prisoners.
MNHRC will send recommendations to the relevant departments for the necessary action based on the findings during the inspection. — MNHRC
