MoALI Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo looks into the sunflower seed breeding process at the agricultural research farm in Nay Pyi Taw.

A briefing session on sunflower seed production for the expansion of sunflower cultivation was held yesterday morning at the agricultural research farm in Tatkon Township, Nay Pyi Taw.
The discussion was attended by Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the directors-general from departments, researchers and officials from propagation of quality strains farmer educative farms.
In the discussion, the director-general of the Department of Agricultural Research discussed the propagation work that will be carried out in the rainy season and late rainy season of 2022-2023. The director-general of the Department of Agriculture explained the status of sunflower seed production in the department’s farms according to the level of quality strains, cooperation between the department, farmers and private sectors for sunflower seed sufficiency. The person in charge of the Tatkon Agricultural Research Farm explained the ongoing activities and the expansion of research and development activities.
Regarding the presentations, the Union minister those responsible instructed them to provide the necessary requirements of the areas where the sunflower crop will be cultivated, to implement seed production zones in areas with suitable water and soil conditions, with the cooperation of water user groups and farmers who are working to identify farmland in a systematic way.
He also called for coordination among farmers and private entrepreneurs to carry out a contract farming system, for access to agricultural equipment, to enlist the cooperation of related departments and to invite and encourage people who want to increase investment in seed production and oil mill development.
In addition, the Union minister and party inspected the land for the systematic farmland development project to be implemented in the Shataw village and the agricultural water supply from the wells in Shaukgon, kyatheaing, and Nweyit villages. — MNA
