MoHT Union Minister discusses Barrier-Free Tourism

Union Minister Dr Htay Aung for Hotels and Tourism met the Nay Pyi Taw Council, Region/State branch office officials for implementing the Barrier-Free Tourism via videoconferencing yesterday.
The Union minister said the tourism industry is a kind of service providing various tours based on the activities of human beings.
Similarly, persons with disabilities are also travellers. According to 2021 data, there are over one billion people with disabilities while 2.4 million in Myanmar as per the 2014 Census. Therefore, the ministry should make efforts to create a comfortable and convenient tourism environment for tourists with disabilities to visit tourist destinations.
The Union minister also stressed drafting barrier-free tourism projects across the nation for people with disabilities to overcome classified barriers such as transport barriers, agricultural barriers and building barriers. He said that it is necessary to add supportive ways in the Myanmar tourism project to provide the disabled in line with the facts stated in Assessable Tourism of the World Tourism Organization.
Then, participants via online presented tourist destinations, airports, hotels/motels and prioritized sectors in implementing Barrier-Free Tourism, and the Union minister concluded the meeting. — MNA
