Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung met with representatives from Thai media outlets, including Best International Travels & Agency, MONO 29, Channel 5, Thairath, and Workpoint in Nay Pyi Taw on 31 July afternoon in order to broadcast on Thai television programmes and promote more access to the Thai tourism market so that Thai tourists can visit more destinations in Myanmar.
During the meeting, the Union Minister explained the tourist attractions and destinations in Myanmar, including its beauty, culture, and religious places for Buddhists, which attract most Thai tourists to Myanmar.
In Myanmar, international airlines have been allowed to resume operations since 17 April, and e-Visa (Tourist) has been allowed since 20 May. Up until now, there has been an increase in the number of domestic/foreign tourists with 14 international airlines per day, and Thai tourists are also visiting, he clarified. The famous destinations for Thai tourists are Yangon, Mandalay, Inlay, Bagan, Ngapali, Chaungtha and Ngwe Saung beaches in Myanmar.
He expressed his belief that widely sharing the experiences and real situations in the country through Thai television programmes will contribute to the promotion of Myanmar’s tourism. He said that this trip is an opportunity to show Myanmar’s natural beauty attractions and culture to Thai tourists, and hopes that Myanmar will become more prominent as a destination.
At the meeting, a video file on the promotion of tourism in Myanmar was shown and an explanation was given regarding the tourism industry in Myanmar. After that, Thai television groups openly inquired about the work for the development of Myanmar’s tourism industry, arrangements made and the conditions that will continue to be implemented so that more Thai tourists can visit Myanmar.
After the meeting, the Union minister and the representatives from the Thai media groups visited the Gems Museum. It is reported that the groups will visit the National Museum, Uppatasanti Pagoda, Minwun Mountain, Defence Services Museum, and Laklok Mountain on 1 August in Nay Pyi Taw. They will visit tourist attractions in Yangon, record videos, and show them on Thai television programmes. — MNA
