MoNREC designates “Htin Mel protected public forest” in Bokpyin Township

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation announced that 4,435 acres in Bokpyin Township of Bokpyin District in Taninthayi Region have been designated as “Htin Mel protected public forest” as of 15 February 2024, under Notification 12/2024 by exercising the authority conferred under Sub-section (e) of Section (6) of the Forest Law promulgated in 2018.
The ministry designates protected public forests and forest reserves to conserve the water sources and watershed areas, stabilize the ecosystem, fulfil the needs of locals, preserve biodiversity and support the agricultural sector.
The Htin Mel protected public forest areas will conserve various kinds of wood and valuable trees such as Dipterocarpus, ficus tree, Eugenia, Uban, Shit Khaw, Swintonia floribunda, Gmelina arborea, Terminalia chebula, Mesua ferrea, Podocarpus neriifolius, Marian and Duabanga Grandiflora, and is also a habitat for endangered bird species such as Hydrornis gurneyi as well as other animals such as Tapirus, Tiger and wild elephants. It will also conserve the watershed area of Kalaung Nancho Creek.
