The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has designated the area of 2,275 acres in Kyaikto Township, Kyaikto District in Mon State, as “Kyeikpi Shwethaungkwin protected public mangrove forest” on 15 February 2024, under Notification No 13/2024 by exercising the authority conferred under Sub-section (e) of Section (6) of the Forest Law promulgated in September 2018.
The Kyeikpi Shwethaungkwin protected public mangrove forest is intended to prevent deforestation mangrove forest, tidal wave, storms and sea wave, aiming to fulfill the needs of the local people and protect the mangrove forests to place habitat of aquacultures and it will be home to hibernated birds and waterbirds. — MoNREC
