MoRAC Union Minister receives Sri Lankan Ambassador

Commemorative gifts are exchanged during the Sri Lankan ambassador’s call on Union Minister U Tin Oo Lwin yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.

Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin received Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar Mr J M J P Bandara yesterday in the reception hall of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Nay Pyi Taw.
The meeting was also attended by U Aye Tun, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, the permanent secretary, directors-general, deputy permanent Secretaries and officials.
During the meeting, both sides appreciated the friendship between Sri Lanka and Myanmar, as the countries worship the same religion, Theravada Buddhism. They also discussed the free courses for monks from Sri Lanka offered by the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, facilities for Myanmar monks who are studying in Sri Lanka, arrangements to confer religious titles to the monks of all the Four Nikayas in Sri Lanka: Shwegyin Nikaya, Ramanya Nikaya, Amarapura Nikaya, and Siam Nikaya, mutural respect relations between the two countries in the arena of religion, the establishment of Buddhist University in City of Kandy, an invitation to visit the sacred Buddha tooth relic festival in Kandy this year, and views on religious and cultural issues between the two countries.
After the meeting, the Union minister presented commemorative gifts to the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar. — MNA/TKO
