More than K383M worth smuggled goods seized in 3 days

Under the leadership of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, special task forces filed 18 cases and confiscated more than K383 million worth of smuggled goods within three days.
The Customs Department officials seized 24 items not mentioned in the import declaration form including consumer goods, granite tiles, China-made evaporative condensers and compressors, reversing chain gear boxes, travelling cable ropes, and Lycotin-S ampoules worth more than K152 million from seven containers at the Asia World container terminal on 20 to 21 February.
On 21 February, authorities seized six cooling towers and pumps valued at K8.19 million, which were not declared in the import documentation, at the Myanma Industrial Port. The department is taking action against the cases in line with customs procedures.
Additionally, the Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force apprehended commodities, equipment, and transportation vehicles totalling K222.48 million on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway on 21 February. Action was conducted under Customs procedures.
On 23 February, the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force appropriated 1.7 tonnes of teak worth K0.86 million in Toungoo District and took action under the Forest Law. — MNA/NT
