MR reopens circular, passenger trains from Yangon to other regions

Myanma Railways (MR) resumed its passenger and circular trains from Yangon to other regions, said U Zaw Lwin, the assistant general manager from Yangon Region No. 7 Division.
“We started our train schedule today. All train schedules are resumed, and the trains are running on all regular routes,” he added.
The trains will run Yangon-Mandalay, Mandalay-Myitkyina, Yangon-Mawlamyine-Ye-Dawei, Yangon-Pyay, Mandalay-Lashio routes and other routes will be the express trains, passenger and mail trains, passenger and cargo trains, short trip trains. Besides, more circular trains will be added starting from 4 February.
The railway passengers need to follow COVID-19 related instructions issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports. The railway staff will take COVID-19 prevention measures such as checking body temperature and making the sanitizer hand gels used in the railway stations’ entrance gate. Also, MR is conducting to keep two seats for one ticket so that the commuters can keep social distancing,
Before the outbreak of COVID-19, MR was running 156 trains with 168 routes, including 40 express trains, 52 mail trains, 48 cargo trains and 13 short trip trains, and operating a circular train with 21 coaches. To prevent and control the outbreak of COVID-19, MR suspended running of some passenger trains in line with the National Level Central Committee’s guidance for COVID-19 prevention, Control and Treatment. Despite the declining number of railway passengers, MR has been operating only six mail trains, four parcel trains and cargo trains and running circular trains with three coaches for 12 routes. —Myint Maung
