The Urban and Housing Development Department (UHDD) of the Ministry of Construction implemented the Mya Nandar civil-servant housing project in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township of Yangon Region. The housing aimed at helping government employees working in Yangon, and now the ministry staff concerned to apply for the apartments. Therefore, the officials arrange to grant a stay permit at the rental housing starting early July, according to region UHDD.
First priority
“We will rent out the apartments on a group basis. The applicants need the special recommendation letters of their respective department heads like the township officers. We will prioritize those who do not have a house with a big family. Depending on the applications of various ministries, we will allocate the units on a ratio. We will make the decision with our groups. We will submit our decisions to the regional government, and they will make a final decision for their stay. We will prioritize the in-service government employees who do not have a house in Yangon at all. If they get permission, they can move to the apartments on 1 July,” said Director U Yu Khine of the region department.
For government staff
The government will allocate 448 rooms of 14 five-storey buildings with eight rooms on each floor. Each apartment measures 436 square feet, and they will be rented to non-gazette officers. Twenty-eight apartments measuring 940 square feet each will be for the ones ranked at or above the deputy director level. The rents for the housing unit are expected to be 5 per cent of the monthly salary for those with higher ranks and 3 per cent for those in the lower ranks of the civil service. The housing repairs will be conducted by the respective townships Urban and Housing Development Department.
Rules and regulations
The Yangon Region Administration Council sent letters to the relevant departments that the employees who do not have a house in the region can apply for the rental housing units in May. Therefore, the government employees of relevant departments apply for the units currently at UHDD of Yangon Region as per the fixed terms and conditions.
