Myanma Handicraft Centre, small-scale industrial products and handicraft expo inaugurated in Yangon

As a gesture of hailing the Diamond Jubilee Union Day, the opening ceremony of Myanmar Handicraft Centre and small-scale industrial products and handicraft Fair and Expo was formally held on 5 February in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon Region.
At the event, Union Minister U Hla Moe for Cooperatives and Rural Development addressed the themes of the centre to preserve and Myanmar canon of traditional arts and crafts (locally called Pansemyo), keep Myanmar cultural traditions alive, support traditional handicrafts businesses, provide one-stop service for the traditional arts and crafts across the country, explore new markets for export growth and promote small-scale industries. A wide range of handicrafts including lacquerware, traditional textile and weaving products, wood carving, silver and bronze products, arts, carving made of timber, bamboo and gems, bamboo and rattan products, sea shell and oyster shell crafts, and other local crafts from each region and state are available at the centre.
Furthermore, it will help enhance the livelihoods of those engaged in traditional arts and crafts making businesses, he added.
Later, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein highlighted that the fair and the expo contributing to the economic benefit and well-beings. This being so, all the stakeholders must exert concerted efforts to have sustainable development for traditional handicraft industry.
The Union Minister, the Yangon Region Chief Minister and the director-general formally opened the centre.
Subsequently, the Union Minister and party also cut the ribbon of the small-scale industrial products and handicrafts fair and expo (Yangon) and inspected the exhibit booths.
The Union Minister also opened new office of Yangon Region Cooperative Department and visited a shop of Moe Oo Pan General Trading Cooperative Limited.—MNA
