Myanmar men’s national football team garnered a 1-0 win over Nepal in their second FIFA friendly match for 2023 at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon yesterday.
With the rain, both teams played competitively, and the Nepalese team was able to create more scoring chances in the first half.
In the 16 and 21 minutes of the match, goalkeeper Kyaw Zin Phyo was able to protect the Nepal team’s kicks in the penalty area, so the Myanmar team did not concede a goal.
In the 33 minute of the game, Myanmar team’s midfielder Lwin Moe Aung’s kick hit the Nepalese defender, and the first half ended in a scoreless draw.
In the second half, the Myanmar team made player changes, and at the 55-minute mark of the match, substitute Win Naing Tun’s kick went off the goalpost and they lost a goal.
Goalkeeper Kyaw Zin Phyo was deftly defending the Nepalese team’s scoring opportunities. In the 86 minutes of the game, Win Naing Tun scored the only winning goal for team Myanmar.
Myanmar team head coach Michael Feichtenbeiner has revealed his feelings upon the match.
“Thank you to the audience for supporting this event. The support of the fans motivates the players. This kind of fan support is also needed in the World Cup qualifiers against Macao. The Nepalese team improved more than before and the current generation has a different skill, so Myanmar had to play difficultly.
“If we can score in the first half, the match will be different. As I said before, some players in my team have fitness issues. We will do reviews after this event. Only those who can play the best will be selected for the national team,” the head coach stated. — KZL
