Myanmar U-19 women’s football team grabbed third place in the AFF U-19 Women’s Championship 2023 after beating Indonesia 4-2 in a penalty decision yesterday.
Both sides played vigorously to earn the medal, but they struggled due to fatigue. Indonesia played strongly with the support of the home team’s fans, and Myanmar’s backline and goalkeeper had to defend.
The Myanmar team’s attack was able to create several opportunities, but the Myanmar fans were not satisfied as they missed all. The leading goal for Myanmar was scored at 30 minutes by Yin Loon Eain. But Indonesia found an equalizer through a penalty at 49 minutes in the second half.
In the rest of the game, both teams fought hard, but they couldn’t score any more goals, so they had to decide on a penalty shootout. Every player from the Myanmar side was able to score a goal during the penalty shoot-out, while the Indonesian side scored only two goals, and the team Myanmar won (4-2).
“First of all, I want to congratulate the Indonesian team. They improved a lot and tried their best to play. If we want to win within the 90 minutes of play, we still need to work harder,” said Myanmar team head coach Daw Thet Thet Win after the game. — KZL
