An official from Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association (MRPPA) says they expects to export about 300,000 tonnes of rubber in 2023-24 fiscal year.

“We expect to export around 300,000 tonnes of rubber in 2023-24 fiscal year. Last year, it was just more than 100,000 tonnes. Myanmar produces about 400,000 tonnes. The reason for the low export last year was the rubber exporters feared losses due to financial policy. They didn’t export because they might lose K 800,000 to 1,000,000 for a tonne. Now the government has relaxed the policy to allow fertilizer import and the exporters have been able to export as the price has reached a reasonable level,” he said.

75 per cent of Myanmar’s rubber exports go to China with other destinations including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan.

Rubber is grown in regions and states including Mon, Taninthayi and Kayin in Myanmar. There are over 1.64 million acres of rubber plantations and about 0.95 million acres of production in Myanmar

Mon State is the largest producer, followed by Taninthayi Region and Kayin State.
