Myanmar exports over 800,000 tonnes of rice in three months of this FY

Myanmar exported over 800,000 tonnes of rice and low-quality rice for three months of this mini-budget year from 1 October to 31 December, according to a release from the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF).
According to the figures released by MRF, the country exported over 525,347.6 tonnes of rice and 277,284.71 tonnes of low-quality rice, totalling 802,632.31 tonnes of rice to the international market.
In the first three months, it exported over 750,000 tonnes of rice and low-quality rice via sea route while the country exported over 45,000 tonnes of rice and low-quality rice via the border trade route.
However, the export volume of rice and low-quality rice via border trade route touched over 270,000 tonnes while the export volume of rice vai maritime route hit over 370,000 tonnes, totalling about 650,000 tonnes of rice and broken rice last year.
As a result, this FY’s rice and low-quality rice export surpassed the last FY figures by 150,000 tonnes.
Myanmar is delivering rice to nine countries this FY. Among them, China is the primary buyer of Myanmar rice with about 170,000 tonnes, followed by Ivory Coast with over 88,000 tonnes and the Philippines with over 66,000 tonnes.
Similarly, the country exported low-quality rice to seven countries and China is the main buyer of low-quality rice with over 120,000 tonnes, followed by the Netherlands with over 95,000 tonnes and Belgium with over 41,000 tonnes.
Last 2020-21 FY, the country generated over US$700 million from rice exports, with an estimated volume of over 2 million tonnes. — NN/GNLM
