The third-place match and final of the Continental Futsal Championship 2023, a futsal tournament invited by Thailand, was held in Thailand yesterday and the Myanmar team lost in the third place match.
Team Myanmar suffered 1-5 defeat to Afghanistan in the match, missing a chance to hold the bronze medal.
The Myanmar team took the lead but could not maintain the winning result. Nyein Min Soe scored the leading goal for team Myanmar, but had to concede two goals in the first half.
Due to the rough play of team Myanmar, the rival was allowed to take a penalty kick. In the second half, the Myanmar team tried to equalize, but the Afghanistan team scored three more goals to seal their big win.
The Myanmar National Futsal Team participated in this tournament as preparation for the 2024 Asian Cup Futsal Qualifiers to be played in coming October. Myanmar squad was able to advance to the group stage, but lost in the semi-finals and the third-place match and had to settle for the fourth place. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
