The drawing-lots ceremony for the group stage of the 2022 ASEAN Women’s Championship was held on 28 May, and the Myanmar team was placed in Group B.
Eleven members of the ASEAN Football Federation will compete in the tournament, which is the largest number in the ASEAN Women’s Football history.
Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysian and Australia are placed in the group A of Championship while Myanmar is falling in the Group B with ASEAN powerhouse Viet Nam, Timor-Leste, Laos and Cambodia.
The tournament will be hosted by the Philippines from 4 to 17 July.
The ASEAN Women’s Championships could not be held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and will resume this year.
The Myanmar team has no difficulty in reaching the semi-finals in the group stage, but in the semi-finals, it is likely to face Thailand or Australia or the Philippines.
The Myanmar team won the championships in 2004 and 2007, but after that they were unsuccessful and satisfied with the second highest.
The Myanmar team has stopped training after the Vietnam SEA Games in May and will soon be training for the ASEAN Women’s Games, football authorities said.—Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
