Myeik Archipelago sees upturn with weekly tour plans

All the stakeholders in the tourism industry are endeavouring to revive tourism in Myeik Archipelago, Taninthayi Region and the tour agencies are now offering islands tours every week after an abrupt fall in the past two years amid travel restrictions triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Myeik Archipelago did not receive any travellers nearly past two years, facing a collapse in tourism. This year, a small number of residents enter the region, tour operators said.
“The visitors usually go on islands tours. Myeik Archipelago sees the upturn at present but it is now crowded yet due to the collapse of tourism.
“We are providing quality services to our customers. We are looking forward to tourism recovery,” said a tour guide.
There are islands tours during weekends and holidays.
“The travellers are mostly from Yangon, Mandalay and Taninthayi regions.
We offer tour services to Smart Island, Bailey Island, Kyalleik Island and Padan Island, including the K150,000-day trip package and K250,000-night trip package. The transport sector is of paramount importance to restart for tourism recovery in Myeik Archipelago.
The resumption of flights and express bus services to Dawei and Myeik cities are required to attract more visitors,” said U Moe Zaw from the Moe Travel & Tour. — Myint Oo (Myeik)/GNLM
