Weekly market update of dry groceries at Bayintnaung Wholesale Centre

For a week from 20 to 26 March 2024, the price of sugar surged at the Bayintnaung wholesale market, whereas the prices of chilli pepper, onion and chickpea declined. The palm oil reference price has remained unchanged for the two weeks.
Potato
Shan potatoes were priced at K1,400-K1,600 per viss on 26 March. Potatoes from the Pakokku area fetched a high of K1,800 per viss.
Onion
The Bayintnaung Wholesale market saw the supply of 180,000 visses of onions on 26 March 2024. The wholesale prices stood at K1,700-K3,100 per viss on 26 March 2024, depending on the quality, size and producing areas (Seikphyu and Monywa) that day.
The Pakokku market had an inflow of 53,000 visses of new monsoon onions on 26 March. The highest price was K1,750-K1,950 per viss there.
Palm oil
For a week from 25 to 31 March 2024, the wholesale reference price of Yangon Region was set at K5,250 per viss like that of last week.t
Chilli pepper
The wholesale prices of chilli peppers were registered at K5,500-K8,300 per viss for long chilli pepper and Moehtaung variety on 26 March. The prices of bell peppers were K9,000-K10,500 per viss that day.
Garlic
The prices of Kyukok garlic hit K10,300-K10,500 per viss while the garlic from Aungban, Shan State, fetched K5,500-K6,500 per viss depending on varieties and qualities.
Rice
The prices hit K86,000- K90,000 per sack of non-premium new monsoon rice and K100,000 per sack of Pawkywe variety on 26 March. Meanwhile, the new premium quality Pawsan rice was worth K125,000-K160,000 per sack depending on the producing areas (Ayeyawady, Pyapon, Myaungmya, Shwebo). Glutinous rice prices hit K85,000-K95,000 per viss.
Pulses
The prices of various pulses stood at K2,923,000 per tonne of black grams (Fair Average Quality/RC), K3,152,000 per tonne of black grams (Special Quality/RC), K3,667,000 per tonne of pigeon peas (red grams) RC, K3,830 per viss of green grams (Shwewah) and K5,425-K5,700 per viss of chickpeas in Yangon’s wholesale markets on 26 March 2024. — TWA/KK
