National-level committee meeting on resettlement, closure of IDP camps held

The second coordination meeting of the National-Level Committee on Resettlement and Closure of IDP camps 2/2023 was held yesterday afternoon at the Ministry of Border Affairs hall in Nay Pyi Taw. The Chairman of the National-Level Committee on Resettlement and Closure of IDP camps mentioned that the national committee has successfully initiated and executed the resettlement process for internally displaced persons and the closure of temporary shelters at various stages. The committees at both the state and work committee levels have efficiently completed the tasks over the last eight months, and plans for future activities will be thoroughly discussed in this meeting.
As working committees address resettlement issues, tasks aligned with the financial year will be coordinated with the respective state governments and the ministries involved in the working committee. State governments were advised to allocate funds to provide essential assistance to internally displaced persons. Following this, the Vice Chairman of the National Committee and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement, Dr Soe Win, discussed the provision of relief materials and food for IDPs in temporary shelter camps or settlements. He also emphasized initiatives such as social support and the commencement of vocational courses and clarified the current situation, outlining measures to support those who have returned to their original places of residence.
Subsequently, the chairpersons of the working committee, along with the relevant regional and state government members and security and border affairs ministers, explained the completed work and outlined plans for the sector. Members of the national-level committee, who continued attending the meeting, along with working committee members and officials from the state-level committees, discussed their recommendations, with the chairman and vice-chairman of the national committee coordinating the briefings. — MNA/KZW
