The number of trips of Cherry passenger ferries that run daily from Pansodan jetty to Dala jetty has been reduced since 26 December. Owing to the trip reduction, locals who usually use the Cheery ferry service are experiencing difficulties in travelling.
Before the Covid-19 period, there were 48 round trips per day and the number was reduced to 42. After the explosion onboard the ship on 18 December, the number of trips was again reduced to 40. The fare was K100 per head, but starting from 1 August 2022, it was changed to K200 per head.
People who commute between Yangon and Dala, Twantay and Kawhmu townships of Yangon South District and townships in the Ayeyawady Region mainly rely on the ferry service. Cherry ships, which were donated by Japan, run every 20 minutes. —TWA/KZW
