Place emphasis on ensuring food sufficiency, lifeblood of the people

Rice is a primary staple food of Myanmar. So, Myanmar people have been emphasizing the cultivation of paddy on a large sown acreage across the nation since time immemorial.
Food sufficiency is a lifeblood at the levels of family, community, region, country and world. Hence, it Is necessary to seek various ways and means for the supply of foods to each other.
Undertaking livestock breeding tasks in respective regions to increase quality livestock and fish production will contribute to the people consuming meat and fish at fair prices, State Administration Council Chairman Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing gave guidance to officials at Thilawa multiple agriculture and livestock zone recently.
If we analyze the consumption of quality meat and fish, the people will be healthy and fit due to obtaining nutrition from systemic digestion. But, we need not only quality meat and fish but also healthy, quality rice for consumption. As such, we should seek quality seeds of paddy.
We should conduct the research works for the production of high yield, quality paddy strains so as to produce quality rice for public consumption as well as for exportation.
It is required to operate vast multiple agriculture and livestock farms to produce quality paddy or meat and fish. As Yangon Region is populous with some seven million people, local authorities should unavoidably expand the aforesaid farms the region one after another in order to provide quality food supplies to the city dwellers.
Emphasis should be placed on livestock production while releasing fingerlings into the natural water to ensure the regeneration of fish to be abundant of fish resources. As Myanmar water territory is a pot of aquatic living beings, we have to discharge the duty of conserving those creatures in our generations to contribute a great deal to the food sufficiency of posterity.

Currently, Yangon Region focuses on implementing Thilawa multiple agriculture and livestock zone, 26th-mile multiple agriculture and livestock zone, and Shwemuyin fish farm in Twantay Township to meet the food demand of the people under the long term plans. Products from these zones will help the people enjoy food sufficiency.
