Fertilizers and inputs needed for 530,000 acres of the monsoon paddy in four regions, including Yangon Region, will be sold at special prices, the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development stated.
The monsoon paddy project will be implemented in Yangon, Ayeyawady, Sagaing and Mandalay Regions.
A total of 79,500 tonnes of fertilizer will be required for the project acreage. The MoCRD and the Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed, and Pesticide Entrepreneurs Association (MFSPEA) negotiated and decided to sell urea fertilizer at a particularly low price of K75,000 per bag and K115,000 per 50-kg bag of compound fertilizer.
According to the Cooperative Department, the MoCRD and the MFSPEA are working in coordination to sell the fertilizers to farmers at a very low price. The sale requires recommendations from the relevant authorities.
Myanmar imported more than 2.2 million tonnes of fertilizers from abroad in the 2022–2023 financial year to meet the demand of local farmers, and the largest imports were nitrogen urea fertilizers and compound fertilizers. — TWA/CT
