Prisoners – 9652 nationals and 114 foreigners – granted amnesty on Independence Day

The State Administration Council announced that 9652 prisoners and 114 foreigners had been granted amnesty in honour of the 76th Independence Day, which falls on 4 January.

Order No. 1/2024 stated that as the commemoration of the 76th Independence Day and for the sake of public peace and humanitarian reasons, 9653 prisoners from various prisons were granted amnesty in accordance with section 401, sub-section (a) of the code of criminal procedure, after they pledged that if they were convicted again, they would agree to be punished with the remainder of the sentence in addition to the new sentence.

Moreover, Order No. 2/2024 stated that, in commemoration of the 76th Independence Day and in order to maintain friendly and good relations with other nations, 114 foreigners who were serving their sentences at different prisons, were granted amnesty according to section 401, sub-section (a) of the code of criminal procedure with the condition that they will be punished with the remaining sentence in addition to new penalty if they are convicted again, and they were extradited.
