Betel market is slack at present and there is a small price difference, according to betel traders.
“At present, betel market is slack. There is only a five-kyat difference between today and yesterday. From the 1st to 4th waning days are usually the period when betel prices rise. During this cold season, the price seems to be only around K11000-12000 a viss,” said the owner of Toe Tat betel wholesale shop.
Betel produced in central Myanmar is distributed to the whole country and the market is slack, wholesalers said.
“As betel produced in central Myanmar is shared and the production areas are wider, the market seems to be a bit slack,” one wholesaler remarked.
The price was up last year but it is expected not to be the same in 2024.
“The price went up to K 15,000 last Pyatho. I expect the price will not go up that much this year. Because even Madaya betel from the central Myanmar, which is the most expensive, is just around K 14000. Last year, it sold for K 20000,” one wholesaler said.
