Sedawgyi Dam to irrigate over 68,000 acres in mini-budget period

Sedawgyi Dam will supply irrigation water to more than 68,000 acres of summer rice paddy and other crops in Mandalay Region during the mini-budget period (Oct 2021-Mar 2022).
The distribution of irrigation water will commence in the first week of February 2022. Madaya Township Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department ensures the adequate supply of irrigation.
The dam has a capacity to hold water up to over 360,000 acre feet and 330,000 acre feet can be reused.
About 67,469 acres of summer rice paddy and Sedawgyi Dam is projected to irrigate 1,162 acres of other crops in three townships, U Aung Aung Soe, a staff officer of Madaya Township Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department.
“The dam has stored to provide adequate irrigation water to the farmers,” he said.
During the mini-budget period, the department has planned to cover 42,225 acres of summer rice crop in Madaya, 19,066 acres in Patheingyi and 6,178 in Amarapura of PyinOoLwin districts, totalling 67,469 acres of summer paddy and 1,162 acres of other crops.—Min Htet Aung (Mandalay sub-printing house)/GNLM
