Seeder use in rice cultivation advocated in Yangon Region

On 31st March, the Chief Minister of the Yangon Region and his entourage observed the harvesting of 90-day rice from three acres of paddies belonging to a farmer, using a combine harvester.
U Khin Maung Aye, a farmer from Wakauktaw village in Kungyangon township of Yangon Region, sowed the rice using a seeder instead of manual sowing. It was discovered that the rice yield increased from 70 or 80 baskets to 123 baskets. Consequently, U Khin Maung Aye encouraged other farmers to adopt the practice of using seeders for rice cultivation.
The chief minister also urged farmers to switch to seeders, highlighting that traditional sowing methods result in loss, wastage, inefficiency, and high costs. The Department of Agriculture in Kungyangon township pledged to provide educational support to farmers on the use of seeders for rice cultivation in the upcoming monsoon season. — TWA/MKKS
