The Camp Commandant’s Office of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) clinched the title with a 6-5 win over Eastern Command in the 60th Defence Services Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Football Tournament.
The final match of the football tournament took place at Zeyathiri Tatmadaw Sports Ground in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Among the spectators were Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and his wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Air) and wife, Union level officials and wives, senior military officers and officials.
In the final match, Camp Commandant’s Office and Eastern Command teams showed off their skills in competing with each other to score the leading goal. In the four minutes, the Eastern Command team scored an opening goal. From then on, the Camp Commandant’s Office team controlled the football in influencing the opponent. So, the Camp Commandant’s Office team could translate their efforts into an equalizer in 16 minutes. Both teams have chances to kick the balls into the nets but they could not transform their chances into goals. After that, the Eastern Command team utilized precise kicks to win two more goals in the 39 and 46 minutes. At the end of the first half, the Eastern Command led the match with a 3-1 result over the Camp Commandant’s Office team. In the second half, the Camp Commandant’s Office scored one more equalizer in the 66 minutes and equalized the match with another goal for its third in the 93 minutes. As such, the final match ended at a 3-3 draw in the final whistle. In the extra time, both teams could score no more goals. In the penalty decision, the Camp Commandant’s Office deservedly won over the Eastern Command 6-5.
In the awarding ceremony, General Maung Maung Aye presented a championship trophy, a duplicate trophy and a cash award to the Southern Command team in the B-class football tournament.
The Senior General presented a championship trophy, a duplicate trophy and a cash award to the Camp Commandant’s Office team of the Office of the Command-in-Chief (Army) which stood first in the A-class football tournament. At the ceremony, senior military officers also presented prizes to the respective winning teams. In the tournament, the South-West Command team and Yangon Command team secured the fair play awards in the B and A class football tournaments.
The 60th Defence Services Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Football Tournament which started on 6 November 2023 was categorized as A and B classes. A total of 16 football teams competed in the A-class football tournament and eight teams in the B-class tournament, totalling 24 teams. — MNA/TTA
