Special task forces and departments concerned need to emphasize inspection of secret conveyance of illegal arms and ammunition, and explosives, said Chairman of Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win at the coordination meeting 5/2022 of the steering committee at the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
Speaking at the meeting, the Vice-Senior General said it can be seen that special anti-illegal trade task force and One-stop service member departments could effectively service their assignments within more than nine months after the re-establishment of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. To do so, collaborative efforts of participant organizations and departments concerned carry out quicker and more effective performances in anti-illegal trade tasks.
Those special task forces have to cooperate with each other from adjacent areas to inspect the illegal trade offenders along the illegal trade routes.
In meeting with the UMFCCI and MSME businesspersons from Yangon Region, the Prime Minister heard reports on taking action against illegal goods importers for the development of domestic production. It was because local MSME businesspersons could not compete with illegally imported commodities which evaded custom duty, at the prices in the market and they are difficult to stand for their businesses. Hence, it is necessary to effectively hinder and inspect the illegal import of commodities.
Within nine months from January to September 2022, the action was taken against 3,095 illegal trade cases at an estimated value of K45.6 billion, exceeding K38.974 billion in 1,537 cases for K6.626 billion worth of illegal trade goods in the corresponding period of the previous year. Among regions and states, the most seizures of cases happened in Mandalay Region in August and October and Kayin State in September.
Special task forces need to arrange no hindrance to the inflow of necessary agricultural inputs to the farmers in time while effectively inspecting illegally imported ammonium nitrate with security awareness. In suppressing the illegal trade, task forces seized not only illegal commodities but narcotic drugs, explosives, arms and ammunition and related accessories. Hence, special task forces and departments concerned need to emphasize inspection for the secret conveyance of illegal arms and ammunition and explosives.
Special task forces are to effectively inspect illegal import of cooking oil as the government is systematically arranging the sufficiency of quality cooking oil and stability of prices. Service personnel need to faithfully discharge their duties as some illegal trade goods escaped from the inspection of task forces.
Myanmar enjoys tax exemption from other countries for only Myanmar’s products. Hence, it is necessary to follow international rules and regulations, and pledges and not harm the trust of other countries in Myanmar.
Secretary of the steering committee Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung reported on the accomplishments of the minutes of the 4/2022 meeting and the work process of the steering committee.
Leader of the office staff of the steering committee, departmental heads and chairmen of Bago Region and Kayin State special task forces participated in the discussions. Vice-Chairman of the steering committee Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein, member Union Minister for Commerce U Aung Naing Oo and the deputy minister for defence explained anti-illegal trade measures in respective sectors.
