The 1386 Myanmar New Year ceremony of Shwedagon Pagoda was held on New Year Day, 17 April, according to the pagoda trustee board.
At dawn on New Year Day, 5:30am, the pagoda trustee board, volunteers and staff offered rice bowls, fruits, flowers, water, lights and fragrances to the pagoda.
After that, breakfast and other donated items were offered to the pagoda’s venerable monks at 6:00am, and the recitation of Parate Tayar to ward off dangers and the merit sharing ceremony continued at the open building of ancient Buddha images on the Shwedagon’s southern part at 6:30am.
Fish releasing and feeding ceremony was held at Shin Upagutta Lake located in Singuttara Park on the pagoda’s lower terrace of northern entrance. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and cabinet members attended the pagoda’s New Year ceremony.
