As a collective Myanmar New Year charity of Thathananwe Sayadaw and Facebook friends, funded at only K 1000 per person, Mont lone yay baw (glutinous rice dumplings stuffed with palm sugar), a typical Thingyan dessert, was served to more than 2000 visitors on the bank of Taungwine Lake on Myanmar New Year, according to the Thathananwe Foundation.
The Mont lone yay baw feast on the bank took place from 7am to 11am on Myanmar New Year.
Thathananwe Sayadaw initially raised K 700,000 for the fund, and interested well-wishers are allowed to participate for as little as K 1000 per donor. More than 600 Facebook users joined this New Year Dana (charity) with more than K 660,000 and other donors contributed K 42,000.
“Our New Year Dana was successfully completed. It was a collective donation of Mont lone yay baw satuditha (public feast) to more than 2000 people in honour of Myanmar New Year, held on the bank of Taungwine Lake from 7 to 11 am,” the foundation said in a post announcing its New Year success.
The bank of Taungwine Lake, the site of this New Year satuditha, will soon be open to the public and will become a new evening resort for Mawlamyine residents. To protect visitors’ motorbikes and vehicles from theft, free parking for 160 motorbikes and more than 50 cars will reportedly be provided.
