Shwedagon to host thousand-lamp offering ceremony on full moon of Thadingyut

According to the Shwedagon Pagoda’s board of trustees, a ceremony involving the offering of a thousand candles will be lit on the full moon day of Thadingyut at Shwedagon Pagoda.
From January to September 2023, around 700,000 domestic and foreign travellers visited the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Region. The number of domestic and foreign travellers has been increasing every month, and the largest number of pilgrims visited it in March.
The pilgrims were approximately 20,000 people each on weekdays. On Weekends, this number surges to over forty thousand perday. On special occasions, such as the full moon day, more than 200,000 people gather to worship daily. Security camera CCTV installation work has been carried out for more than ten years. The number of installed CCTV cameras is about 280. In 2018, about 300 CCTV cameras with better quality and upgrades were installed.
Currently, due to the increasing number of travellers, the Shwedagon Pagoda is open from 5 am to 8 pm. — ASH/KZW
