Shwehsandaw Pagoda Buddha Pujaniya festival in Toungoo slated on 15 May

The 446th Shwesandaw Pagoda Buddha Pujaniya festival, Kason water-pouring ceremony, and procession of two sacred relic teeth will be held in Toungoo Township, Bago Region, from 15 to 29 May, according to the pagoda trust.
U Yin Htay, treasurer of the trust, said: “In addition to the pagoda festival, we will host a procession featuring two sacred relic teeth, one from China and one from Sri Lanka, in Toungoo at 3 pm on 22 May. Later that evening, we will perform a water pouring ceremony on the Bodhi banyan tree located in the northwestern corner of the pagoda compound.”
King Bayintnaung’s brother Toungoo King Min Khaung commissioned the pagoda in 932 ME. It is said to contain a strand of the Lord Buddha’s sacred hair relics. — ASH/NT
