The Shwesettaw Mannchaung Elephant Camp is one of the elephant camps developed as a tourism industry in Myanmar. It is built in a place with good transportation, forests, water, and natural beauty.
The Shwesettaw Mannchaung Elephant Camp, opened on 9 February 2019, is situated in the Minbu District timber extraction area of the Myanma Timber Enterprise in Minbu (Sagu) Township, Magway Region. The camp spans 700 acres of land beside the Mann Creek, providing ample varieties of bamboo and grasses for elephant food, as well as easy access to water.
Shwesettaw Mannchaung Elephant Resort was opened with a view to developing tourism based on elephant conservation, providing employment opportunities for elephant employees and local people, developing community-based tourism businesses, understanding the habits and behaviours of elephants and learning to love elephants by opening and establishing ecotourism, creating a desire to preserve the beauty of Myanmar’s forest and land, helping to protect the environment, and generating income for the State through green business, according to U Zaw Win Naing, manager of Minbu District’s timber extraction area.
The Shwesettaw Mannchaung Elephant Camp is conveniently located just two miles from the Shwesettaw Pagoda. After paying homage to the pagoda, visitors have the opportunity to visit the elephant camp, ride the elephants, and enjoy the natural beauty of the forest, mountains, and water along Mann Creek. The camp is home to 13 elephants, and the rates for elephant rides are K10,000 for foreigners and K5,000 for citizens. In previous years, during the three months of Myanmar’s New Year’s Thingyan Festival, which coincides with the Shwesettaw pilgrimage period, numerous pilgrims and visitors flocked to the camp.
At Mannchaung camp, a renowned destination for relaxation and exploration, visitors can find bungalows equipped with water supply and electricity. Standard accommodation is available for K40,000 per room, while VIP accommodation is priced at K70,000 per room. Visitors who wish to indulge in the crystal-clear waters of Mann Creek and experience the forest’s natural beauty on an elephant ride are warmly welcomed at the Shwesettaw Mannchaung Elephant Resort in Minbu (Sagu) Township, Magway Region. — Zeyar Htet/(Minbu)/TKO
