Smart Village Project: Elevating rural life across 45 villages

The Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development has embarked on an ambitious mission, bringing the smart village establishment project to life across Myanmar. Presently active in 43 villages, this initiative is set to expand its reach to 45 villages in total.
Since the 2022-2023 Financial Year, the smart village project has gained momentum, spreading across 88 villages of 82 townships in 14 regions and states. This trajectory is set to continue until the end of the 2023-2024 Financial Year. The project’s overarching timeline spans five years from its inception, with each selected village receiving K60 million in project funding.
Central to this endeavour is the elevation of living standards within rural communities through the development of vital village infrastructure. A dual focus on enhancing the rural economy is pursued through technological advancements and financial services provision. The envisioned outcome includes not just improved livelihoods, but also the creation of environmentally compatible and sustainable model villages.
A critical dimension of the project lies in enhancing the capabilities of both villagers and village associations. This multifaceted initiative touches upon village infrastructure development, financial services provisions, and inputs, leveraging the allocated financial resources for each respective department. Notably, it seeks to fortify village enterprises, enhance livelihoods, and reinforce local associations, all while fostering technological distribution, social welfare, and environmental consciousness.
A collaborative approach has been employed, with officials engaging in conversations with the inhabitants of soon-to-be model villages. Their collective input has guided the formulation of activities and plans aligned with each village’s distinct characteristics. For a more nuanced understanding, officials are embarking on field surveys as part of the project implementation.
Myanmar boasts over 64,000 villages spanning Nay Pyi Taw and all its regions and states. The smart villages established through this project stand as exemplars, illuminating the path of development for every village across the nation. — TWA/KZL
