State Administration Council Chair pardons prison terms for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Win Myint

The State Administration Council issued Order No 48 signed by the SAC Secretary for pardoning the remaining prison terms of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi under five Criminal Code numbers and Order No 49 for U Win Myint under two Criminal Code numbers.

 

The State Administration Council issued seven orders from order numbers 48 to 54 yesterday in commemoration of the full moon of Second Waso (Dhammacakka Day), 1385 ME.
The Chairman of State Administration Council has pardoned Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from her remaining prison terms to be served under the Criminal Code Nos 35/2021, 37/2021, 71/2021, 38/2021 and 45/2021 ordered by the relevant courts in accord with Sub-section (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Article 401, and U Win Myint from his remaining prison terms to be served under the Criminal Code No 35/2021, and No 36/2021 ordered by the relevant courts in accord with Sub-section (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Article 401, commuted the death sentences of certain prisoners to life in prison as per Sub-section (a) of Section 204 of the Constitution, granted pardons to 22 members of ethnic armed organizations, remitted the punishment of 125 foreign prisoners from the respective prisons, jails and camps as per Code of Criminal Procedure Article 401 (1) and deported them from Myanmar and permitted to withdraw the cases opened against 72 affiliated with ethnic armed organizations in accordance with Section 419 of the Constitution, and to ensure the ethnic unity and internal peace and humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
A total of 7,749 male and female prisoners from relevant jails and camps, 22 members of ethnic armed organizations, and 125 foreign prisoners have to serve the new punishment together with the remaining punishment to which he was sentenced this time if more offence is committed. — MNA/TTA
