Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the 2021 environmental greening activity at No 17 block in Pozaungtaung forest reserve beside No 1 road in Nay Pyi Taw-Tatkon in Ottarathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
The Senior General planted a star-flower sapling at the designated place.
SAC Members and the Joint-Secretary, Union ministers, the chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, deputy ministers and officials also grew saplings at the designated places.
The Senior General viewed cultivation of saplings at No 17 block in the forest reserve.
A total of 16 kinds of saplings such as star-flower, teak ironwood, gum-kino, eucalyptus and oil eucalyptus were grown at the ceremony. Pozaungtaung forest reserve is on 8,517.09 acres of land with 51 blocks filled with more than 20 kinds of trees.
As a total of 72.88 million of saplings were grown in the monsoon tree-growing ceremony as the 2017 environmental greening activities across the nation, 59.02 million of saplings are thriving, accounting for 80.9 per cent. A total of 73.22 million saplings were grown at the same ceremony in 2018, 62.32 million of which are thriving, accounting for 85.11 per cent. Likewise, a total of 68.79 million saplings were planted at the same ceremony in 2019, 58.48 million of which are thriving, accounting for 85.01 per cent. A similar ceremony took place in 2020 when 68.86 million saplings were cultivated, 57.81 million of which are thriving, accounting for 83.96 per cent. In 2021, the same ceremony plans to cover cultivation of 36.26 million saplings across the nation.—MNA
