State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing unveils first-ever Underpass of Myanmar

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing yesterday morning attended the ceremony to inaugurate the Underpass, the first facility of its kinds of Myanmar, on Pyay Road near Hanthawady Roundabout in Kamayut Township of Yangon Region.
The Yangon City mayor reported to the Senior General on the construction of the underpass to prevent traffic congestions and minimize the traffic accidents based on the developed urban system, facilitation of escalators in the underpass for convenience of older persons and those with disabilities, allotment of shops for creation of job opportunities and use of the underpass with neat and tidy and secure facilities in line with the city characteristics.
The Yangon Region Chief Minister presented a gift to mark the opening of the underpass to the Senior General.
The Yangon Region Chief Minister, the Commander of Yangon Command and the mayor formally opened the underpass and the Senior General unveiled the entrance to the underpass.
The Senior General visited the underpass and explained the needs of compulsorily building the double ways and underpasses due to the increasing number of population and vehicles in Yangon Region as the road areas cannot be expanded, construction of the underpass as the first step for implementation of the subway and gave instructions on future plan and stressed the need for prevention of danger of fire, emergency rescue measures and security of road users.
The Underpass where plots were allotted for 18 shops is 11 feet high and 40 feet wide, and located 15 feet and three inches in depth underground. The main underpass is 427 feet long with four exits. It can admit some 6,000 people per hour. The underpass is facilitated with three escalators and two lifts for older persons and disabled persons. The underpass is equipped with sensors and cameras for the prevention of danger of fire and emergency rescue and security measures. The newly-opened underpass is a building that much benefited the people and is an urban symbol of developing Yangon City. — MNA
