State awards US$100,000 to semifinalist Myanmar women’s football team

Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan yesterday greeted Myanmar athletes at the 31st South-East Asian Games in Ha Long City, Viet Nam.
During the meeting, the Union minister praised the brilliant performance of the sporting team as they have shown their hard work. The State and the people will look forward to honouring the nation pride through sports and success, the Union minister said.
Next, the State awarded US$100,000 to the Myanmar women’s football team advancing to the semi-finals.
The Myanmar women’s football team will play against the Vietnamese women’s football team on 18 May in the semifinals.
In the evening, the Union minister watched the performance of Myanmar athletes at the Taekwondo Championships held at Tay Ho Stadium in Hanoi.
Today’s competitions include billiards and snooker championships at Ha Dong Stadium, Archery and Shooting competitions at Hanoi National Sports Training Centre, and Petanque Games at Hanoi Sports Training Centre.
Sepak Takraw competitions at Hoang Mai Stadium and Lethwei events are also being held at Bac Ninh Stadium, where Myanmar athletes are competing.
Myanmar Billiard player Pauk Sa has already advanced to the final and the Myanmar team advanced to the semifinals in the men’s and women’s triathlon yesterday. —MNA
