Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine inspected social work activities in Dawei District in Taninthayi Region on 7 May.
During her inspection tour, the Union Minister and party attended the ceremony of providing social pension to the elderly aged 85 and above, cash assistance to civil society organizations, and honorary certificates to volunteers involved in the COVID-19 control activities in Taninthayi Region in the 2022-2023 financial year.
At the ceremony, the Union Minister briefed them on the implementation of Quick Win Projects on social protection, and disaster management and rehabilitation. Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko spoke about coordination on social protection, development in the region and disaster management activities.
Afterwards, the Union Minister and officials provided K206.61 million for social pensions to 6,887 elderly people aged 85 and above in Taninthayi Region and K22.908 million for the housing establishment permits through officials.
The Chief Minister handed over the certificates to the representatives of the CSOs which participated in the COVID-19 disease control activities. During the visit, the Union Minister inspected the storage of the relief items, materials for development tasks and donated items at the warehouse of Social Welfare Department and Disaster Management Department, and the Domestic Science Vocational School in Sanchi ward of Dawei and attended to needs.—MNA
