Tazaungdaing festival of Lashio, northern Shan State, starts on 4 Nov

The Tazaungdaing festival of Lashio, northern Shan State, which was halted for three years, will be held for four consecutive days beginning 4 November, according to the organizing committee of the festival.
The fourth Lashio Tazaungdaing festival will commence within the 32-acre precinct of Yantaingaung Sutaungpyae MyoOo Pagoda which is located at the entrance to the city. The opening ceremony of the newly built People’s Park and music concerts will also be held at the same venue on 5 November. It is known that various types of hot-air balloons will be released on 6 and 7 November.
A member of the festival organizing committee said that the audience will be entertained with traditional dances of Bamar, Shan, Kachin, Lahu, Myongzi or Hmong, Palaung, Wa, Lisu, Mong Wong Bamar and Kokang, including donation of refreshment (alms-giving and charity) by donors.
The festival was held for the first time in 2016 and could be held annually till 2018. A period of three years: 2019, 2020 and 2021 are the years of COVID-19 transmission in Myanmar. Thus, Thadingyut and Tazaungdaing festivals, including pagoda festivals which were halted for three years, were re-celebrated this year. — TWA/GNLM
